Harbor Capital: Fintech

A multi-year project to design and develop a new website, and continued work on feature development and maintenance

Opportunity

As part of a larger project involving a name change, branding and marketing work, Harbor Capital (formerly Harbor Funds) engaged Ballast Lane Applications in a website redesign and rebuild that included combining two previously separate websites. We have continued to work with Harbor Capital as their priorities evolve, to ensure that the website meets their needs.

Solution

The BLA Product Development and Design Team took the wireframes developed based on results of stakeholder interviews and market research by our partner CTP, and underwent a complete redesign phase. We worked closely with the branding, marketing, and Digital teams on the client-side to create a beautiful final design. On the product side, a discovery phase involved evaluating options around authentication, personalized content based on user type, and the different stakeholders that use the site. At the same time the Harbor team was evaluating whether to implement a new Headless Content Management System (CMS) or overhaul their existing one (with an upgrade), and a decision was made to stay with the existing one. The BLA technical team built a new website using the new design and requirements that integrates with the existing updated CMS, as well as uses Salesforce for authentication, Pardot for email subscriptions, and several other 3rd party integrations.

BLA Team Comments

I really like the extensive coverage of topics related to styles, design, and element manipulation, especially in addressing issues like oversized titles. The use of gatsby is challenging due to the problems that have to be faced with server side rendering and static page generation. This aspect adds an interesting and sometimes complex dimension, as there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.

I like the ContentStack and the content management part. How it handles content creation, editing and publishing. Changes are sent to the front, we take it and render it. As for Harbor itself, I like what they show about the products, the information, the statistics, the graphs.

Juan Agudelo

Besides the technical aspects, what I think stand out about the collaboration with Harbor Capital is how we, meaning the HarborCapital website owners, Harbor IT and BallastLane have been able to navigate the finance sector's constantly changing environment. The site has been able to cater to a multitude of change drivers, both external and internal, prompted either by the market itself or regulatory and compliance requirements.
