Opportunity
Reibus International is a fast-growing business based in Atlanta that provides an innovative process and platform to help buy and sell excess inventory of industrial steel. The process is quite complex because there are a lot of variables that are important when buying and selling bulk metals at the right quality and price, for example, type, gauge, grade, coating and location. Reibus has created a platform where purchasers can use this information to make informed decisions and be matched to a seller. Once a match is made, Reibus facilitates the transaction to ensure that everything is done smoothly. The challenge was to build a platform and features that supports this complexity and the unique requirements of buyers, sellers and market managers. To help accelerate their efforts, Reibus engaged the Ballast Lane Applications design, architecture, and development teams. We now have a large, dedicated team that provides the foundation of their core web and mobile development engineering capability. This team works shoulder to shoulder with client leadership on the product and technical side.
Solution
After getting a great set of features out into the market, Reibus then wanted to build out the next generation of new capabilities, respond to user feedback on current features and put a process in place to accelerate development timelines. We began with an intensive design and build project to update the Reibus insights page to include more data, new analytics, and user specific features. The design work was collaboratively done using Figma (our standard tool for design and collaboration) and led to the deployment of a React-based front end and dedicated backend for pulling data from third party sources. Following this project, our backend and infrastructure team took on the task of re-architecting elements to improve performance, add monitoring capabilities, deploy a new DevOps approach and consolidate infrastructure on AWS for manageability. We also helped deploy an API testing approach using JestJS to help automate regression testing and speed new deployments. All these changes were done in collaboration with the Reibus team to ensure seamless transitions. We have continued to add capabilities to push product design and requirements forward, build more web-based features, design and launch a Flutter-based mobile app version of the Reibus marketplace and build the testing and quality assurance processes.
